There are few movies that have achieved the kind of cross generational success of Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused. It seemed to hit on the perfect mix of 70s cultural commentary and a general analysis of high school life throughout the decades. It served as the launching pad for several young acting careers like those of Adam Goldberg, Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Joey Lauren Adams, Parker Posey, and Ben Affleck.
Not only was it an acting, directing, and writing tour de force, but it also gave rise to two extraordinarily popular music CDs.
The second, the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack features some of the greatest acts of the 1970s. As far as 70s music compilation CDs go, it's hard to go wrong with the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack.
Released in 1994, Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack serves as companion to the nostalgic sounds of the original soundtrack. While the original features the more star studded and well known tracks, the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack accords itself very well with an interesting mix of bands that sounded great in 1970, 1994, and today. For those who love 70s nostalgia or eclectic rock, the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack is a perfect addition to any CD collection.
The first track on Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack is the seminal Edgar Winter Group hit "Free Ride." "Free Ride "was an enormously popular hit for Edgar Winter Group in 1973, and serves as the soundtrack of a lot of lives from that time. Another popular driving hit of the 1970s featured on the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack is "Living in the U.S.A." by The Steve Miller Band. Hits like these by The Steve Miller Band and Edgar Winter are the ultimate driving music for any fan of 70s rock.
There aren't many compilations that can put Alice Cooper, Peter Frampton and War all one record, but Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack manages to do just that. Peter Frampton scores with two hits, his classics "Show Me the Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do." War is present with "Why Can't We Be Friends." For many people, these classic songs on the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack have defined a great portion of their lives, and for many more they are songs that will define future moments as well. While these aren't really the bands' chart topping hits, they still have an indelible impact on music fans worldwide.
For many, the original Dazed and Confused collection is more must have than the Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack, if only because of its collection of more popular hits like Kiss' "Rock and Roll All Night," War's "Low Rider" and Foghat's "Slow Ride." Of course, Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack manages to hold its own quite nicely, especially with the addition of the very expensive title song, "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith. Even without some of the more notable 70s classics, the inclusion of the classic Aerosmith and some really great second tracks make Even More Dazed and Confused Soundtrack a real hit for fans of the movie and fans of 70s era rock alike.
