One of the most memorable "Dazed and Confused" characters is Mike Newhouse. How could anyone forget the nerdy Jewish kid with big, curly hair? What most people probably don't know is that the actor that portrayed Mr. Newhouse is Adam Goldberg.
Adam Goldberg was born in Santa Monica, Calif.,
on October 25, 1970. Besides being an actor, Adam Goldberg is also a screenwriter, directo,r and an editor who has completed works for both movies and television. Adam Goldberg's first major screen credit was his role in "Dazed and Confused" in 1993.
In "Dazed and Confused" Adam Goldberg's character could be described as nerdy or an all-around dork. Adam Goldberg was not the only person in the movie who went on to become a big Hollywood name. These "Dazed and Confused" stars include Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Parker Posey, and Milla Jovovich.
"Dazed and Confused" is about the last day of school in the life of Texas high school students in 1976. To get a basic understanding of the movie is fairly simple. Take "American Graffiti," have it take place in 1976 and add in a lot more sex, drugs and that ol' time rock and roll. Goldberg's character and the other "Dazed and Confused" stars spend most of the movie drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, making sexual advances on each other, and driving recklessly.
Other films that Adam Goldberg has been in include "Saving Private Ryan," "A Beautiful Mind" and "Déjà Vu." Goldberg's character in "Saving Private Ryan," the cynical Private Mellish , earned him recognition from both audiences and film critics. His movie role in each of these films has been that of a supporting character.
"Déjà Vu," which stars Denzel Washington, was released on Nov. 22, 2006. "Déjà Vu" was directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Adam Goldberg assumes the movie role of Alexander Denny, a scientist who runs a project that is part of a government program designed to catch a terrorist played by Jim Caviezel. Even though "Déjà Vu "is a serious movie, Goldberg doesn't let the opportunity to pull out the funny guy routine pass him by. The actor has a line in "Déjà Vu" where he says, "I need more cowbell," which was a reference to a popular sketch from the television show "Saturday Night Live."
Adam Goldberg made his debut as a feature director, screen writer, and executive producer with the film "Scotch and Milk." The film has been described as "a neo-noir drama centering around a group of L.A. friends burdened by love (or lack thereof) and a fixation with the 1950s." At the 1998 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, the film won Goldberg the Grand Jury Prize.
