Dazed And Confused Stars: Ben Affleck, Fred O\'Bannion, Character, Actors And Movie Role

Ben Affleck, now an Oscar-winner and member of Hollywood's A-list, got his big break as a Dazed and Confused star, like many others. The 1993 film, written and directed by Richard Linklater, opened with modest success but now has achieved cult status. One of the reasons for this success may be because of the Dazed and Confused star, who was able to play a high school stereotype that everyone feels like they know and hate.
Dazed and Confused, named after a Led Zeppelin song, depicts the last day at Robert E.
Lee High School in Austin, Texas, before the summer of 1976. Dazed and Confused stars an ensemble cast assembled from then unknown actors, and focuses on high school rites of passage; hazing, drinking, doing drugs and starting sexual relationships. The movie profiles people in traditional 1970s social cliques: the athletes, the stoners, the popular girls, the dweebs and the bullies.
In the film, Affleck portrays Dazed and Confused character Fred O'Bannion, a super-senior bully who revels in abusing incoming freshman. The angry youth makes a sport out of hazing and even owns a paddle that he carved himself to beat younger students with. Affleck's portrayal of the bully is so convincing that he has made several Web Sites' "Top Ten Screen Jerks" list. On geocities, there is even a "We Hate O'Bannion Club," which features a picture of the Dazed and Confused star with pinholes in his hair and face. But even though the Dazed and Confused star played Fred O. with such authenticity, most critics agreed that Matthew McConaughey held the title for standout performance.
Although the Dazed and Confused star had roles in “School Ties” and other small movie roles before 1993, the film helped push him into stardom. Along with Affleck, the film also advanced the careers of other Dazed and Confused stars: McConaughey, Parker Posey, Milla Jovovich, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason London and Adam Goldberg.
Ben Affleck is perhaps the most successful Dazed and Confused star. In his career, Affleck has established a partnership with longtime best-friend and fellow Boston native Matt Damon. The two wrote and starred in the film “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, and later won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. To date, Affleck is the only Dazed and Confused star to win an Academy Award. Four years later, Damon and Affleck began producing the Emmy-nominated reality TV show, “Project Greenlight,” a documentary series about budding filmmakers competing for a chance in the industry.
Also, the Dazed and Confused star has been featured in blockbusters such as “Armageddon,” “Pearl Harbor,” and “Daredevil.” He has also acted in Kevin Smith films such as “Dogma,” “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,” and “Clerks II.” More recently, the Dazed and Confused star has added director to his already flooded resume. In November, Affleck will make his directorial debut of a major motion picture with the release of “Gone, Baby, Gone,” a film about two detectives in Boston investigating the kidnapping of a little girl.
Affleck, however, is not only a businessman. Over the years, the media have covered the Dazed and Confused star's involvement in several high profile relationships, most notably with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez. He is currently married to actress Jennifer Garner and in 2005 they had a daughter, Violet Affleck.
